What Is the Thailand Privilege Visa?

Thailand Privilege (formerly Thailand Elite) is a long-stay membership program run by the state-owned Thailand Privilege Card Co. (TPC): pay a one-time membership fee and receive a 5-20 year long-stay visa (Privilege Entry Visa), sparing you repeated visa runs and renewals. It is not permanent residency, but for people who don't qualify for a work or retirement visa yet want to live in Thailand long term, it is one of the most convenient fully legal options.

  • Airport VIP lanes and fast-track immigration (EPA service)
  • 90-day reporting can be handled by the program on your behalf
  • Assistance with opening Thai bank accounts, getting a driver's license, and similar matters
  • Annual points for lifestyle services

Application Process

  • Submit the application form and passport details (directly or through an authorized agent)
  • Background check (about 4-8 weeks; criminal records or immigration violations may lead to rejection)
  • Upon approval, receive the payment notice and pay the membership fee
  • Receive the membership confirmation and have the visa affixed at Immigration in Thailand or a Thai embassy/consulate abroad

Who Is It For?

  • Digital nomads and remote workers paid from abroad (note: the Privilege visa does not include the right to work in Thailand)
  • Long-stayers under 50 who don't qualify for a retirement visa
  • Frequent visitors and families tired of repeated visa applications
  • Those with the budget who value convenience — on a tighter budget, compare the DTV visa

FAQ

Can I work in Thailand on a Privilege visa?

Not for a Thai employer. The visa carries no work permit; local employment still requires a Non-B visa plus work permit. Working remotely for an overseas employer is tolerated under the official position that it doesn't take a Thai job.

Privilege visa or DTV — which should I choose?

The DTV costs only 10,000 THB for five years of multiple entries, suiting budget-conscious digital nomads, but each stay is capped at 180 days and you must show 500,000 THB in savings plus remote-work credentials. Privilege is expensive but effortless: looser stay management, concierge service, no annual re-qualification. If you lean toward long-term settling and have the budget, choose Privilege.

What does the background check cover?

Criminal records, Thai immigration history (overstays), and blacklist status. If the check fails, the application is returned and no membership fee is charged.
